  • While I understand the potential value of that, it is worth also acknowledging that ai will never understand the human, social, contextual meaning of things its providing alt text for, and theres a fair argument to be made that folks with disabilities deserve those things

Id welcome perspectives from folks with relevant disabilities who use or depend on alt text :)

  • While that take is clearly unpopular, kinda the whole western world does. Sometimes we like to pretend its really just the US, and gloss over the fact that european colonialism and imperialism happened.

Theres a certain brand of racisim that flourishes in places where there is higher racial homogony, and it may be quieter, but it’s very real. You see it in the northern states in the US that are like almost entirely white where people have basically never seen a black person, and you see it plenty in europe.

The afd exists as a modern day party 😅. If someone said the US has a racism problem no one would reply with “thats a generalization”. Anywhere racism exists has a racism problem. And that certainly doesnt exclude europe.

I believe mastodon instance would need to federate both with the solarpunk server op is posting from and lemmy.world, and then you’d find the account that essentially is this community and mirrors activity from this comm as though theyre individual mastodon posts, and you’d need to find the right one and hit boost

Maybe theres an easier way. You may be able to post to this comm from your mastodon account to establish the link

I’d be curious if someone more knowlegable could chime in with a better understanding

  • I’m just using fedora with gnome at the moment. And I control it with antimicro x. Though the gnome extension I liked best for typing on screen with the mouse isn’t available on the latest version of gnome. A Bluetooth keyboard would be nice.

(Technically right now I more often just use it as a second display for my laptop with an HDMI cable running across the living room and don’t bother with the controller, using the trackpad and keyboard. But it was working nice also when I left my laptop plugged in sitting below the TV :)
