Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Whats the worst book anyone has ever recommended you?
45·19 days agoThe wheel Of time series. I got through the first 2 books before realising that I disliked every character. Also every female character was written so poorly it made me want to “Tug on my braid and stamp my foot”

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•Creating bots that show russian-like speech that are anti-US would be a good use of AI
2·24 days ago“Both sides are the same” Is an argument that frequently pops up whenever corruption and corporate ownership is brought up in regards to the Republican party, The idea being that the democrats are Also corrupt and corporate owned there for who you vote for doesn’t matter therefore your vote doesn’t matter. Aka political disengagement.
Not sure what you meant by the first part? Can you please show me where you see the correlation?

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•Creating bots that show russian-like speech that are anti-US would be a good use of AI
16·25 days agoRussian bots do a lot more then just claim “russia good U.S bad”. They primarily echo the most extreme positions on both sides of any argument aka they also say “U.S good Russia bad” with the express goal of antagonising and polarising discussions.
They aren’t trying to brainwash you so much as make you angry and disengaged, their success in America for example wasn’t just in supporting right wing nutters (although they definitely invested more energy into bolster the political rights views) theu also posed as left wing nutters. Successfully shifting dialogue away from calmer more logical discussion and into the realm of extreme emotion.
This us also why “both sides are the same” is so problematic, it is exactly the result the Kremlin is looking for, they want people to be burnt out and convinced that nothing they do will matter, because then only the most politically extreme people will vote and conservative views consistently cultivate more extremists then progressive views.
Basically, no, more bots will not solve this problem. Adding more bots that are obviously anti murica and sound Russian would just be doing what russia is already doing. You would be doing half their job for them.

World News@lemmy.ml•NATO states considering ‘offensive cyber ops’ against Russia
110·29 days agoI conflated cyber psyops and cyber warfare as both being offensive cyber operations, which was sloppy and unclear of me.
I’m not excusing americas history of racism, imperialism and general douchbaggery. Only pointing out the stark reversal of the trend towards empathy and compassion (Pre 2010) back to full mask off racism and corruption (post 2010).
“Something” Happened in America during the 2010’s that drove a distinct increase in the amount of public support for racism and bigotry.
Now I am leaving this conversation, because it has become far more combative and emotional then I am comfortable with.
I genuinely hope you have a good day.

112·30 days agoA. I said cyber PSYOPS not warfare and there is an argument to be made that propaganda IS a form of warfare (Eg it is according to russian doctrine). B. There has been a distinct upwards trend in American cuntishness over the last 15 years, well more of a dropping of the mask.

313·1 month agoIf they are then that means one of two things 1. They suck at it or 2.Russia is scary good at blocking it.
The fact that china felt the need to isolate their people from the global net, yet russia didn’t makes me think nato just isn’t that good at aggressive cyber psyops.

32·1 month agoIt’s frustrating to see this sort of thing, planning on Russia continuing to be a threat into the 2030’s, when Europe could nullify the threat Russia poses by providing more direct support to Ukraine. The war in Ukraine has done more damage to russia than the 1990’s, just imagine what could happen if they received more support.
Obligatory Fuck Trump and Fuck The American government you two faced putin knob jockeys.
