Installed Mint on two aging family laptops. One is smoothly running 00s era games already and i barely needed to help the family member with that.

Another thing blowing my mind is the complete lack of screen brightness support. World oot on a few Linux distros I found. My keyboard has the keys, let me dim my damn main screen with those instead of the finicky buttons on the screen

Time to install Linux. I’m busy setting up family with Mint this holiday season to keep their rarely used devices alive.

The law and order crowed disagrees with laws or their enforcement surprisingly often

Switching back to Android with a OnePlus was pretty easy last year. Moved stuff and It even matched many of the installed apps. I’m all for making that even better

Someone should print this on a t-shirt. Or stickers. Both!
Totally. You don’t need to pretend to cry to make a point. I rarely cry but if I do it’s usually a relief to get it out. If the kids are around so be it. I don’t want to pretend to them that those feelings aren’t valid.
In general, yes, kids don’t need to know about all the little troubles of adulthood. But when you have a rare situation that makes you incredibly sad, like hearing of a friend passing away, being overburdened by stress at Work, … It’s better that kids know that crying is okay, others can take care of you and you get better again.

Desktop on a 3060 Ti is doing fine. Never ran Windows on it to compare though

This sounds awesome! If what you’re talking about is a new software you’re working on, hit me up! I have time to spare for some coding and have literally considered writing a better feed reader for myself or finding an OSS project to contribute to

But the problem is the lack of good, simple RSS readers on mobile. I miss Pulse.

After testing a bunch I am now using HERE WeGo maps a lot. Less detailed on local shops and restaurants but has some reviews, opening hours etc Has great route planning including for bike and public transport.
More free would be CoMaps but that’s really mostly grey’s mapping and turn-by-turn and very little info on shops apart from them existing.

Stay strong Canada! I hope in a few years people will just think of Canada when you say “America” because it’s the major civilized country in North America

Bbbb … but … That’s like communism! The government shouldn’t interfere with tHe frEe mARkEt!!11!

Let the Murricans fight it out and fix the mess they started. They shouldn’t have nice things if they think fascism and fucking up the planet are the way to go.
And yes, I also mean those that didn’t actively support Trump but aren’t fighting back.

Good.
This is why most of the world literally laughs about the US. Civilized countries have long removed finance from the worries you have when getting into an accident.
Nothing does everything. Huh
