Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Whats the worst book anyone has ever recommended you?English
16·19 days agoHaha that trilogy might be my favorite of all time but I also TOTALLY get that take. I’m just a big fucking sucker for the second and third books as they get increasingly ridiculous.
The closest I came to cracking this was buying a used treadmill, a steam deck, and some third party joycons that were a little more ergonomic. Play games while walking. Lost 20lbs playing BG3 and another 10 beating Hades. Then life happened and that routine fell apart. But it worked pretty well. Just need to get back into it. Obviously not feasible for many due to the initial expensive or space requirements.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's the story behind your username and avatar?English
2·29 days agoDrew a comic that made the front page of reddit over a decade ago. Family and friends noticed it and identified me because the username wasn’t subtle if you knew me, personally. Ditched the account immediately and used a generator, which came up with this. Decided to re-use it for shits and gigs. For those wondering: no, neither the comic nor the account of mine had anything weird or inappropriate, I just appreciate a certain level of privacy in most online communities.
Bunch of lumber and stuff I was already planning on buying as I finish my basement, like a laser level.

8·29 days agoHad one, maybe two lines and about three seconds of screentime. It also sounded different than the first movie - enough so that after the film I checked to see if he had been recast.

23·29 days agoSaw it yesterday with the kiddo. Lots of fun, great sequel, well worth a visit to the theater. Felt a little bogged down by a need to cameo almost everyone from the first movie, though.

Linux@programming.dev•780k Windows Users Downloaded Linux Distro Zorin OS in the Last 5 WeeksEnglish
12·1 month agoMore glitz and glam than many other distros I’ve tried. It was the first one I tried when trying to leave Windows. Eventually did Mint, Pop, Nobara, and Garuda. Chose Mint to stick with for now and haven’t regretted it.
If one of my less savvy friends asked about switching to Linux, I would mention Zorin as a possible option simply because it goes out of its way to feel familiar.
You probably already know, but FoundryVTT is pretty fantastic. The software/base VTT itself is not open source, but the rule systems and modules (QOL add-ons) mostly are. I self host my own server.

8·1 month agoRevit, AutoCAD, Rhinoceros, Bluebeam, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign. Virtual machines are, unfortunately, not ideal professionally. Other solutions like Crossfire and Winboat are hit or miss, but mostly miss. My biggest hope for SteamOS isn’t that games continue to improve, but that other large corpos will start to take Linux that much more seriously soon.

5·1 month agoI’ve enjoyed Ultraviolet. I remember seeing a clip of a fan made pokemon game that had a pretty unique art style. I think they remade it unreal 5? It looked nice, but I haven’t been able to locate it for awhile so perhaps it either got taken down or was fake.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•pwned: do you pronounce it as "pohned" "pawned" or "owned"English
4·2 months agoThis clip from Brooklyn 99 uses what I consider to be the only two acceptable pronunciations. The first obviously the silly way, the second the proper.

3·2 months agoThe Way of Kings. Absolutely loving it, no notes. I got started on Sanderson’s stuff with the Mistborn series which I thought was just okay. I enjoyed the overall world building more than what was happening in the story. Storm light, though, I’m enjoying every bit.

I know I could search for this online, but word of mouth is so often superior and it also feels like kinda the point of lemmy…but got any recs for some punk or punk adjacent bands/albums? Particularly recent stuff or old if it holds up to the current climate. I got into RATM around this time last year and nothing else has come close to scratching the itch of “maaaan fuck this shit.”
(In addition to the stuff mentioned in your original comment, of course!)
Edit: seems like this thread is building a bit of a list on its own, actually!!

Something about that fills me with joy every time I see the movie.

Seems like this might help with library management / metadata handling. Can anyone here vouch for it? Using jellyfin for my music library at the moment and I have found it’s music management to be lackluster. Tracks with features showing up as distinct artists seems to be it’s latest hurdle.
