Maybe it’s partly regional, but growing up it was always “nitch”. Like “Tom has really found his (nitch).” It only seems to have been making the transition to “neesh” in the last 10 years or so and it still sounds off to me.

Thank you for memeing with the proper pronunciation of “niche”.

1·5 days agoSo do you have just a bunch of random boolean tags? The Genre tag can hold multiple values, so you could have “Classical;Relaxing;String Quartet;Suites” if you wanted and each is identified separately.

Music@lemmy.world•Norah Jones - Don't Know Why (jazz)English
4·1 month agoThe year was 2002 and I was working in the music section of a Borders. Older guy comes in asking for an album by a new young singer, he didn’t know her name but “she could be a model”. I don’t recall how, but somehow, we made it to this album and that was what he was looking for.
As a 20 something, it wasn’t my cup of tea and given the Borders crowd’s obsession with it, I was mostly unwilling to be bothered with it. Fast forward 20+ years and I’ve developed a real love of Jones and this album in particular.
I guess my point is listen to the old people even if they don’t know what they’re talking about.

7·1 month agoI’ve just finished ripping about 1300 CDs. I used Jellyfin for a bit since I already had it set up for my video library, but I wasn’t happy with the Android options and it was pretty basic.
Navidrome is a fucking TREAT. Paired with Symfonium, I’m finally enjoying my personal music collection regularly again.
As for tagging, OP, while I get why people like Picard, it doesn’t always work with how I like to do things. I put everything into a music folder on my desktop, use Mp3Tag to retrieve metadata, edit what I need, and make sure the artwork is decent and sized where I want it. Then I use the tag > filename to organize and move them to my NAS.

Since we are all people of taste, I don’t know how many of you are familiar with the inspiration for Albuquerque, but it had been a while since I heard it. Listened earlier this week and was shocked at how directly it referenced the original.

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Route outgoing traffic of a docker bridge network through VPNEnglish
24·2 months agoFirst off, take this for what it is: a guy who can follow instructions but does not understand all the inner workings of docker.
I use Gluetun and have a set of apps that I run through it. They are all in the same compose file. Each of the ports is defined in the Gluetun section and not with the individual app. Then each app’s network_mode is set to service:gluetun
This routes all the traffic for those apps through the VPN while maintaining my regular network for everything else.
You know, he seems like a real pain in the ass, but seeing him live was pretty incredible. He’s a hell of a drummer and I have to respect that he’s been able to make himself so visible as a band member.

Piracy: ꜱᴀɪʟ ᴛʜᴇ ʜɪɢʜ ꜱᴇᴀꜱ@lemmy.dbzer0.com•Should I get seedbox, VPS or something else entirely?English
10·2 months agoEven though I have a great internet connection, plenty of storage on a NAS, and a mini PC as a server, I still like the idea of a seed box that’s just off in another country somewhere. Everything has its place, and I don’t have to clutter my own server with things that maybe I want to seed but not keep around on my local network.
Locally, I route any downloading type apps through Gluetun for that little extra bit of anonymity.
I saw Metallica this week and they played a killer 90 minute set right through, no encore. It was glorious. They left, we left, everyone was happy.

Oh, I agree. The Frenchish version just wasn’t around me growing up.
