  • The BBC article covering this “boxing” match is awesome. You can tell right from the title that the journalist wasn’t amused:

Joshua and Paul earn riches but deliver budget sporting spectacle

The plot played out in the ring was lifeless - a slow, joyless watch that would have struggled to earn even a charitable rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

And the ultimate irony is that this spectacle has provided one of Joshua’s biggest paydays and, in all likelihood, his largest television audience.

With seconds remaining in the fourth round, referee Christopher Young perhaps spoke for viewers around the world when he pulled the fighters together and urged them to engage.

Directing his comments at Paul, he said: “Fans didn’t pay to see this crap.”

    Ok but that’s just evil.

They painted it at a T junction, you can see there’s a road coming from the opposite direction, and at night, anybody who’s not local could have fallen for that and just assumed it was normal crossroads.

There’s also barely, if any, sidewalk in front of the painting, that could at least have alerted the driver.

It’s pure luck that the guy wasn’t driving fast, or there’d be dead bodies because of this stupid prank. This needs jail time, even if suspended.

  • True, but…

There’s a couple of warning flags in that story - what’s with the “I spend my time making my boss’s life hell”? That doesn’t sound conducive to building a trusting relationship…

Then there’s how you work through a problem with someone, especially higher management. I’ve learned to not over share the details, because there’s this invisible force that commands them to give an opinion and butt in.

Just offer calm assurance that you know what it is going on and that you can fix it, and give them an estimate of how long it will take, but double it first. This will give you leeway in case of unexpected issues, and make you look good if you deliver faster.

One thing they’re good at though is getting you resources. If you need someone else to move, or something to get it fixed, be clear about that and they’ll start making phone calls and make it happen in no time.

  • This is 100% the reason for the documentary in the first place. Quote from the director:

My dream would be that when people watch it, they take flat Eartherism as an analogy to something they believe in, because it’s so easy to demonize another group or another person for something they think but you’re kind of just as guilty if you do that.

These are humans, people that are missing something in their lives, and this community and their “secret knowledge” grants them that.

I see the SovCit movement as exactly the same thing, but when one digs deep enough, maybe one finds the same in the fanatical MAGA crowds, and in the most fervent religious people, and it’s not a coincidence that there’s an overlap in membership between these groups…

  • It was also a push for less pollution/environmental benefits.

But the fucking automakers in Europe were sleeping on their asses, and didn’t believe thar electric cars could work or that people would buy them.

Then came Tesla and bitchslapped the whole lot of them, proving that it does work, and by the time they started realising they needed to actually do something, you had the Chinese pumping out awesome cars at literally half the price that the EU can make them, and now they’re scared shitless.

I get that letting the EU car industry die is the beginning of the end for Europe, but the answer isn’t prolonging gas cars, it’s subsidising the industry in a smart way, so they can compete.

    That’s anthropomorphism.

Dogs don’t need some long, heartfelt apology. They’re pretty good at understanding humans, they’ve been around us for millennia after all, and most people instinctively know how to convey to their dog that they’re not being aggressive - the dog quickly understand it was an accident.

The big apology, the tears, etc that’s for us, to make us feel less bad about having hurt them. They don’t need it, but they will gladly take the cuddling and petting, so no harm there. :)

  • I swear he made the 4th to rid the world of people who fall asleep during performances, and I love him for it.

And for all the other bangers too. I’m sure many composers in history have reflected on their pieces and whispered under their breath “you know what this song needs? Canons!” But did they have the balls to do it? No.

This ends my exposition on why Tchaikovsky is the greatest composer to have ever lived. Thank you.
