341·13 days agoThey’re going to use AI to identify and block ads for me, right? Or let me set a cookie preference and automatically apply that to every page I visit?
That would be rather useful things to have AI for IMHO.
Not everything is unified sadly. I read somewhere that when it comes to services, the different rules within the EU is effectively a 40% tariff between EU countries.
There is much to be done, if only people could set aside national interests and understand that it’s EU27 vs World and not Finland vs Italy or Greece vs Luxembourg.
I think it’s the latter. Right now the EU doesn’t have the capability to provide the level of intelligence that Ukraine needs to effectively fight back, so the EU is very careful not to upset the orange one right now. Most other things we can manage, but not that. Having the US help, even if it’s a reluctant help, is good for both the EU and Ukraine.
Very true on the outside pressure, especially now. On the point of tech giants I kind of agree but not quite, we should try to build our own, industry up, but regulate them to prevent the dominance of the big three US cloud providers for example. The problem here is that tech scales very well, so the bigger you are the better your services.

241·14 days agoThe UK needs to realise that brexit really was a bad idea and they only can stand up to the US as part of the EU.
The UK is a big economy and is still being kicked around. My country would be absolutely curb-stomped if outside the EU.
Most, if not all, that I post have an archive link if there’s a paywall.
Good that you got to read the article at least. 😀
Not sure why this is so downvoted. It’s not a bad article.

Europe@feddit.org•Von der Leyen opens up to economic migrants: "Let's bring skills to Europe"English
51·19 days agoThe economy adapts to the supply of workers, and as the UK found out after brexit, if you restrict the supply of workers the work generally goes away.
They had produce rotting in the fields because they couldn’t find workers and the locals weren’t interested in that kind of work. Raising salaries wasn’t an option because consumers weren’t interested in paying more. Economics is fun, isn’t it?

Yeah, you buy the mandatory bit and put the rest into a savings account. Got a friend who saved a lot of money this way. But it’s a gamble. You could wreck your car on day one.
I mean, for car insurance you could just look up what a good insurance would cost you and put that money into a savings account if you’re a careful person. It’s a gamble, but most accidents you have are probably going to be fairly cheap. This would not be a good advice for home insurance as you wouldn’t be able to save enough to buy a new house if yours burned to the ground.
