This is a tech sub. People should be capable to know their shit around these well known annoyances. Now imagine US sites that have much fewer regulations. Don’t you ever again browse, or do you just click on ‘accept all’?

Well I seached for “jabber” and found Trillian as fourth or so hit. Dunno how good it’s on Apple, but I seem to remember using a PC build somewhen with no negative memories. It’s free. When I was a young I read Pyramids by Terry Pratchett in German. Months later I found out that the bookstore also had the English original, bought that and was totally surprised how much better the book is. No translations anymore since then.

I’m not very good at Turkish, Spanish, French, but when on holidays abroad I try to read the local newspapers. Much more immersive that way.

Views, positions have gotten more extreme and cemented at that. Probably due to algorithms of “traditional” social media, that focus on them to raise clicks. (This trend to extreme positions and freaking out on the slightest trigger is also noticeable in real life behaviour, imho.) I sometimes block folks because I know there will not be a frank exchange of views but pure hate, extremism.
