What an amazing time to have started playing Vintage Story

10ish years ago I would have said Summer is the best but Spring and Autumn are close contendente. With winters being only ok because of the snow.
Nowadays I still say summer is best but spring and autumn are gone (replaced by alternating weeks of summer and weeks of winter) and winter is just dark, wet and too cold to be enjoyable but not cold enough to have snow.
And also summers used to be like 30°C max if it was hot, maybe a little warmer, now if we get a week of summer that is 30°C max we consider it a cool summer because on average the max day temperature hangs at around 38~40°C.
The simulation part tbh makes little sense to me, at least if I pause by going on the menu. Unless it’s multiplayer there’s little reason for you to prevent me to pause on menu, even if your aim is to be as realistic as possible.
At the end of the day it’s still a game and if I feel overwhelmed or the need to pause for whatever reason give me the option to. The people who want absolutely 0 pause can simply not go on the menu or if you really want you can put an option to disable pause on menu IG. Or yk they could do whatever they’re simulating IRL, within reason.
How the fuck is it possible for Ukraine to be so low on the contribution to international peace and stability while Ruzzia and Israel are so comparatively high? Like how is being invaded worse than being an invader…
What positive contributions to peace and syability have the 2 terrorist states had in the past year?
Honestly this is just one of the several perplexing rankings.
Tbh I haven’t had that issue in a while om KDE, tho TBF I don’t stream often. Screensharing on discord, meets, etc works perfectly fine tho, and I did manage to stream something with OBS.
Mint is best but if that don’t work try Fedora KDE.
I also recommend watching The Linux Experiment’s videos
Cutscenes that can’t be paused, especially if they’re longer than 10 seconds.
Do you have the slightest idea how frustrating it is to be mid-cutscene, something else requires my attention, and I cannot fucking pause it? Singlehandedly my biggest gripe with gaming.

Linux@programming.dev•What are the silliest reasons people have given you for not wanting to try Linux?
4·1 month agoA guy kept arguing Linux sucked because no games work on it and especially not Black Desert Online. Here’s the kicker: this argument took place in the BDO chat, while I and another poor soul were playing (and chatting) from Linux. I even made a tutorial on YouTube on how to play the game on Linux, he still didn’t believe I was playing on Linux because “it’s simply impossible”.

A) fascists will vote the percieved OG fascist party, not the copycat
B) people who vote CDU and don’t like AfD will be alienated by this move
C) if AfD is a problem to democracy then becoming the AfD is a problem too

Linux@programming.dev•Which distro for a non-technical windows user?
1·2 months agoJust FYI, or rather FTI, the arch wiki can still be a useful tool for non-arch distro. Debian also has a wiki.
They need to understand there are differences between arch and Mint, of course, and also some between Debian and Mint to an extent, but those tools can still provide helpful info.

Linux@programming.dev•Which distro for a non-technical windows user?
2·2 months agoFedora, specifically the DE you are using.
I normally go with Mint as a recommendation but generally speaking you must understand these people will ask you for help for any small issue, so it will be a lot easier if you use the system yourself.
Now, I use ArchBTW with KDE, and I would never recommend arch to a new user (KDE is a good choice tho), meaning I normally recommend Mint (from experience I know noobs love it), so I am in this awkward situation where I have to provide tech support to mint users usually (tho TBF so far only 1 person and the real issue is that his laptop is dying but he hasn’t come to terms with it) and it is sometimes annoying because I don’t know the settings layout and all that stupid GUI shit (I love using the CLI a lot if you couldn’t tell)

Linux@programming.dev•What would be the best setup to ease my niece (10) into tux land?
2·4 months agoMake her install Gentoo in her own and make sure to berate her at every step /s
Personally I would go with something that has KDE so she gets fancy animations and stuff, but Mint is a perfectly valid choice too (cinnamon also has some cool stuff to toy around with but not as much imo). Just make sure to show her how to install stuff, and put adblockers and shit in the browser. Also highly recommend installing some of the linux games.
Me, Vanu medic. I loved the massive battles man.
Unfortunately I don’t play anymore because I barely have time to game and the latest news from the game unfortunately show me it is a dying game, sonI’d rather keep the good memories and play something else when I have time sadly.

11·9 months agoJust cause you opt out of those features doesn’t mean the car doesn’t have other mandatory shit that connects to the internet to, say, sell data like the exact times and locations of when you have sex.
Inb4 “but I don’t have to worry about it cause I don’t have sex” we know, but that’s not the only thing they gather data on.

11·9 months agoBoth of my statements are correct. Cars shouldn’t have internet and there should be less cars. In total absence of offline cars (meaning no used cars, nothing at all), use bikes and public transportation if you can.
I mean you literally asked for an alternative and I gave you one.

We had this in the west as well when I was a kid. It was called fus-ro-dahing or something.

I haven’t checked the forums tbh but I think that YouTube + the in-game help menu (pressing H) do a really good job. Plus there is an amazing mod support (and modding is actively encouraged) so you can really customize the experience the way you want even if the deve don’t add a feature you want.
