WTH is a “soulist”?
I’m frankly mystified by anyone who thinks Mastodon is “too technical.”
Please explain. Because the steps as far as I know are:
- Want a mastodon account
- Search for “join mastodon”
- Pick a server
- Create an account
- Enjoy mastodon

19·4 months agoGetting the core of FB users to move off FB is going to be REALLY hard.
Because people who would love to get off of it are connected there to people who think it is just fine. And those people are also afraid of change.

3·6 months agoI wish Apple would apply at least a little pressure on devs to make all their iOS games playable on M series Macs.
I played a beta of Warframe on my M1 and it had a few easily smoothed out oddities with dealing with Mac interface issues, but was otherwise fine. Once it released for real, it could no longer be played on my Mac. You just can’t download it.

4·6 months agoI ran a Hubzilla site for a while, and first, it was a pain in the ass to get set up.
Second, the UI is terrible.
Third, Hubzilla seems entirely populated by cranky old men, inexplicable foreigners, and FOSS advocates who talk of nothing else.
I shut it down.

2·7 months agoCan we poison our posts by putting a nonsense “signature” at the end of each of them?
The communities tab now gives a dropdown menu that appears to be correct.
I clicked on the “Communities” drop down and got a site wide error.
The very first page I tried going to off that landing page errored out.

1·9 months agoJust from the summary, I’m nearly certain this would be better as a web article.
Guess I was hallucinating when I asked it to turn a rambling, amateurishly written game account into a saga in the style of heroic poetry…
and it got it. About 85%, with only a few clunkers that needed edits.

Linux@lemmy.ml•How can we make Linux more appealing as "just works"?English
467·1 year agoI’m a very casual Linux user and in my experience, I’ve NEVER had a problem with a documented solution that didn’t require going down a rabbit hole of other references.
Something like this: “To get the trackpad to work with Ubuntu, make sure you’ve installed the hergelbergelXX package.” (No link, find it on your own!)
Visit the HergelBergelXX page. To install Hergelbergel on Ubuntu, you must install the framisPortistan Package Manager. (No link!)
On the FramisPortistan GitHub readme, we discover it requires the JUJU3 database system to be installed. “JUJU3 may cause conflicts with installed USB devices under Ubuntu” JUJU2, which shipped with Ubuntu, is no longer supported. Also we recommend Archie&Jughead Linux over other distributions.
And this essentially never stops.
All of this is comparatively a happy result—I actually DID post a question on linuxnoobs about getting my trackpad to work with Ubuntu… and have not had a single reply. I have no idea how to find out how to make it work.
I wish I could say this is great, but it’s an unreadable mess. Looks like EEDT.
