Typewriters have a unique wear pattern on each letter, so it’s definitely possible to find if the same typewriter was used for two sets of output.

11·10 months agoThis is so fucking sad for me. I’m 98% certain that man took his son’s spot so he could live.
I keep forgetting how awful the internet is without ad blockers…
Great link & description, though. Super solid.

Google “Polish counting”. It’s almost like the Polish people intentionally made it hard to learn their language.
Once you won EVE, try out Prosperous Universe. No combat. Just the economics/trading of EVE, no need to always be on.
Plus, we have the best spreadsheets.

Technology@beehaw.org•Risks to children playing Roblox ‘deeply disturbing’, say researchers
19·11 months agoIf you don’t watch what your kids play, your kids will find something inappropriate to play. This isn’t just a Roblox problem. Not suggesting Roblox shouldn’t have better moderation (holy hell should they) but this isn’t unexpected. Should it be? Maybe. Could they realistically do it? Probably not without some serious vetting changes—changes that would make “experience makers” have to wait to get their games approved.
Lock down the accounts so they can’t see server chat or get messages from randoms. Only allow your (parent) account to add friends. Play with them. Be present, at least somewhat, when they play.

102·1 year agoI’ll chime in and say that math teachers have said similar things about calculators/graphing calculators for 25+ years. This is most definitely you getting “old”. It’s okay—it happens to all of us.
As far as attention span, that has been an equally common refrain—going back to people complaining that radio has reduced kids attention spans.

5·1 year agoOff the top of my head: Supermarket Simulator and Void Crew. There’s more.
Even then. My mother followed a YouTube video on this including the part where the helpful Indian guy had her download an app and set up a very sketchy VPN.
Yea…
Not really. It takes a lot of experience to sort the legit from the not legit.

3·1 year agoNot really a sim, but def a fan of space games. Void Crew has been great.
Oh, I most definitely love my kids. Seeing their thought processes always makes my day.
But…I’m in exceptional circumstances. My son lost bowel and bladder control 2y ago (tumor on his spinal cord). Had to live in the hospital a year. Took its toll on our now 9yo daughter…
And now, my son is STILL used to being woken up every couple of hours for blood pressure checks and who is also awoken at that point? Yep—me.
I don’t remember the last time I woke up feeling rested.
I love my kids but… I’m tired, boss.

81·1 year agoWhen my (then) 4 yo was undergoing chemo I had a goto line I used often when people would comment on my mask:
You’re right. I should let my kid who has no immune system because he’s on chemo for cancer treatment just die then, right?
Honestly, if you’re still masking and get flak, just say the above anyhow. You have my permission.

You Should Know@lemmy.world•YSK About NAPS2 - the free and open source document scanning software
2·1 year agoI think I phrased this badly. I wanted effectively a digital filing cabinet software with OCR/tagging—not just OCR alone. It looks like paperless-ngx ticks all those boxes.

You Should Know@lemmy.world•YSK About NAPS2 - the free and open source document scanning software
2·1 year agoThis does sound great. I really do want to move bills older than 6 months (and other records in general) backed up to my PC as well as cloud storage.
Do you have any recommendations on this sort of thing? Ideally, something that scans with OCR and makes things searchable. Failing that, I may have a project for myself to do…

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•If I'm stuck in the same area as someone who is clearly sick (runny nose, coughing etc) is there some combo of short/long breaths or nose/mouth breathing that's a better defense against catching it?
