  • If only there was an entity that could make rules about who and what can be driven on public roads.

I know it sounds impossible, but what if this entity could have stepped in before companies tread public roads and other drivers as beta testers for their half finished commercial products? They could have forced companies to either make this stuff work, or keep it off the roads.

Real talk for a moment: The world, but especially the USA has been on fire over the last decade. Sometimes I wonder how different the introduction of certain technologies could have been if everyone wasn’t distracted by all the craziness and governments had actually done their job. I’m not just talking about self-driving or AI, as another example, but also crypto and social media in general. Would things be much different, if this stuff appeared during “boring times”?

Sorry, I’m just rambling here …

  • Oh, now the MIC does something? Strange, they seemed to be oddly quiet when it comes to Ukraine. I’m always a bit surprised the MIC isn’t all in on sending both old military stock and newly developed stuff there for testing and recognition. So much money to be made. It can also be quite the advertisement if your 30-year-old tanks can crush the mighty modern Russian army. Including the invincible T14 Armata shown off in 2015.

This was their times to shine, and even the most hardened anti-war peace lovers would have been forced to thank them for it.

  • Ok, but the genie is already out of the bottle. Arguing like this is kinda pointless.

I don’t think it will be possible to get them off social media (or the internet in general), so you need to find ways to make it work.

E.g. minors can not be advertised to, no algorithmic content, no doom-scrolling, and heightened data protection. I think teenager should get access to as much as possible to reduce the “risk” of them trying to go around it. “Their” version of social media might even be the superior one in the end.

If the world wasn’t on fire at the moment, people could calmly discuss possible solutions and propose laws in every country to actually protect their children from e.g. the stuff mentioned in the linked article. Sadly, this isn’t going to happen …

What a shit show. (Not an American, btw)

I wonder, how many “both sides” Americans who didn’t vote (or voted third party) expected Democrats to win anyway. This way they could feel smug for not “voting for genocide” while still getting the clearly better option.

Now they have to pretend they didn’t fuck up and act as if having a “protect the status quo” democrat wouldn’t have been any better.

  • I don’t think that most republicans believe they need Greenland for security reasons, but so what? They might as well, or it would be better if they did at least believe this, because the person they voted for and are still supporting is acting like a lunatic. And they are cheering him on, or at least condoning it.

I do believe that that plenty of republicans like Trump threatening former allies like a big and strong businessman/mob boss would do. The same goes for those who think they should grab Greenland for the resources, or just because they can.
