Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Would they dare to regulate (eliminate) part of the population if they no longer need us in the future?English
2·25 days agoWhoa, you’re a friend of DeSoto? I heard that guy’s a real pleasure to work for.
There is (or used to be; I haven’t been by there in a while) a restaurant near me called Lettuce Souprise You! Never went there, but the puns have stuck in my head for 30 years. Well done, unknown restaurateurs!
That sucks! I’m sorry. They really ought to moderate it better.
I’ve read comments to this effect for years, and the only time I see objectionable shit on Steam is in reviews for intentionally political meme games like the recent one about putting up flags in the UK. Typically my only exposure to the forums is when I’m looking up obscure puzzle solutions, but the worst comments I ever see are just stupid or unhelpful. I imagine it’s worse for big multiplayer games, but I tend to avoid those, so maybe that’s why I don’t see the problem.
I always downvote any post or comment that complains about downvotes, especially when the commenter claims that downvotes are somehow proving their point. This is probably the only exception I’ve ever made, because you’re right.
Galaxy is just a launcher. You don’t need it to play any of your games, it’s just a centralized place to track achievements, sync cloud saves and whatnot.
Do you see what happens when you find a ranger in the Ered Nimrais?

memes@lemmy.world•I stand by my statement about people who cut sandwiches horizontallyEnglish
1·2 months agoSide note: The Sporkful is best known for its ongoing debate about whether or not a hodog is a sandwich
That’s funny. Never listened to The Sporkful, but I’d have said that this is what Judge John Hodgman is best known for, as well.
I think people in cars would tend to accelerate away from a brick-waving pedestrian, rather than stop. Would be an interesting study, though!

Patient Gamers@sh.itjust.works•Weekly Recommendations Thread: What are you playing this week?English
3·3 months agoBroke my normal rule of waiting for a 50% discount (or better) and picked up KCD2. I’ve just been mainlining it. It’s a bigger, better version of the first game (which I loved, hence the early purchase), and picks up right where that one left off. No complaints, except maybe that horseshoes are a pain in the ass to forge.

Star Trek Social Club@startrek.website•Star Trek: Voyager - Across the Unknown looks like a field day for micro managers in its first gameplay trailerEnglish
2·3 months agoIt does seem like an odd time for a Voyager tie-in game. Reminds me of an upcoming game I saw in my Steam queue the other day that’s based on Mars Attacks!. Flipping Mars Attacks!!? What could be more relevant? Really striking while the iron’s hot with that one.
Anyhow, I hope it does well. I don’t think it’s for me, but I’m all for more Star Trek games. Resurgence is pretty great, imo.

2·4 months agoThat’s fair. I still don’t like it—I think lots of people will assume it’s called that because of Threads—but I don’t have any better ideas. ¯\(ツ)/¯

3·4 months agoWhy not fediverse? I’d argue that Threadiverse is far from a neutral term; it implicitly ascribes ownership of all these spaces to Meta.

2·4 months agoI was listening to a podcast yesterday—I think it was The Flop House— and one of the hosts talked about how part of the struggle involved with making any kind of art is getting through the phase where the quality of what you’re able to create doesn’t measure up to your taste. It’s pretty discouraging when you work hard on something and it just isn’t anywhere near as good as you think it should be. Maybe it’s trite, but it resonated with me.

Games@lemmy.world•Sexualized video games are not causing harm to male or female players, according to researchEnglish
3·4 months agoWell, it’s inaccurate. Fiction does not require unrealistic elements. There’s just scads of fiction out there—across multiple genres—that’s set in a real time and place, and doesn’t involve anything fantastical.

1·4 months agoTons of 'em! Comedies, in particular, tend not to have guns. I watch a lot of UK light ent, particularly panel shows, which fit the bill. Then there’s sci-fi (if you’re cool with space guns), and shows set before guns were invented (other weapons may make appearances).

Just in the interest of cheering you up a bit, I’d like to point out that many people simply refuse to click on YouTube links. Personally, I have no desire to engage with video content, especially when it’s shared with little to no context. It’s not out of laziness, but more out of a conviction that far too many people have outsourced their thinking to random vloggers, and believe that posting a link to their favorite video essay lends credibility to their argument.
