Europe@feddit.org•Rubio calls for U.S. and Europe to "revitalize an old friendship" in speech to alliesEnglish
30·26 days ago“offered a tone seen as softer and more reassuring”? - the message was still the same. Read between the lines and the threats are still there. And as long as the current US government is actively interfering in other countries elections, founding extremist right wing organisations, letting their billionaire tech bros influence people by spreading lies and hate and telling other countries how and with whom to do business we are very far from putting any trust into their words. Their deeds do the talking.

BuyFromEU@feddit.org•Why settle for an American dialect when you could be speaking a European made international language?English
3·1 month agoWhile I find it admirable to promote the use of Esperanto I don’t think that many people want to start learning another language. It might work to garner a nerdish interest from people who love languages - which will contribute to the number of competent speakers. But otherwise it’s hard to convince people to learn a language you still can’t really use in your daily life.
And at the moment I can only give you marketing ideas that will attract fringe groups: Bad Herzberg in Germany is the ❤️ of Esperanto - a great place for hiking. You can even consider it a kind of pilgrimage. William Shatner aka Captain James T. Kirk played in a film that exclusively uses Esperanto. He holds the rights to the film too. You can see snippets of this film in Blade Trinity (and they had to pay Shatner a pretty penny to use it) and there’s also a short dialogue in Esperanto in this film…

He’s pissed he didn’t get it. But if he had gotten it, he would have found another “reason” to throw a tantrum. And it wouldn’t help Greenland, as long as some of the filthy rich people have an interest in it - “freedom cities” where they can live their liberitarian dreams.

Europe@feddit.org•UK: A mother's warning after Temu electric cleaning brush rips out her 3-year-old daughter's hairEnglish
283·4 months agoWhile there is reason to blame Temu for a lot of things, including the safety of many of their products, in this specific case, I don’t really see it. If parents put boxes with potentially dangerous objects (even when they are in boxes) in areas that are in easy reach of a 3 year old, and then said child unboxes an electric gadget… They are lucky that it’s only ripped out hair.

Europe@feddit.org•The US Army is advising its soldiers in Germany to go to German food banks because of the shutdown.English
6·4 months agoSo now, they just deleted “Die Tafel” from their list and put the other options into a PDF to hide them better?
Members of the US-Military wouldn’t be elegible going by the rules of Tafel branches that I know of anyway (Tafel asks for “proof of need” in form of notices from social security agencies). But who thought this to be a good idea? This non-communication is making matters worse.

Europe@feddit.org•Bear that killed runner in Italy moved to German sanctuary – DW – 07/20/2025English
32·8 months agoThe real problem imho is, that according to the article, despite having previously injured two other people she was left in the wild. She could/should have been brought to a sanctuary after the first incident.
If you look at the bear’s family, it seems obvious that they somehow learned that humans weren’t to be feared and avoided. Her mother is already in the same sanctuary, two of her brothers were killed. One in Switzerland, the other in Germany - the (in)famously nicknamed Problembär (“problem bear”) Bruno.

Looks like he’s got something mixed up or needs to deflect about the Crew member of a US submarine that needed urgent medical care and was transported to a hospital in Nuuk.
