  • “offered a tone seen as softer and more reassuring”? - the message was still the same. Read between the lines and the threats are still there. And as long as the current US government is actively interfering in other countries elections, founding extremist right wing organisations, letting their billionaire tech bros influence people by spreading lies and hate and telling other countries how and with whom to do business we are very far from putting any trust into their words. Their deeds do the talking.

  • While I find it admirable to promote the use of Esperanto I don’t think that many people want to start learning another language. It might work to garner a nerdish interest from people who love languages - which will contribute to the number of competent speakers. But otherwise it’s hard to convince people to learn a language you still can’t really use in your daily life.

And at the moment I can only give you marketing ideas that will attract fringe groups: Bad Herzberg in Germany is the ❤️ of Esperanto - a great place for hiking. You can even consider it a kind of pilgrimage. William Shatner aka Captain James T. Kirk played in a film that exclusively uses Esperanto. He holds the rights to the film too. You can see snippets of this film in Blade Trinity (and they had to pay Shatner a pretty penny to use it) and there’s also a short dialogue in Esperanto in this film…

  • The real problem imho is, that according to the article, despite having previously injured two other people she was left in the wild. She could/should have been brought to a sanctuary after the first incident.

If you look at the bear’s family, it seems obvious that they somehow learned that humans weren’t to be feared and avoided. Her mother is already in the same sanctuary, two of her brothers were killed. One in Switzerland, the other in Germany - the (in)famously nicknamed Problembär (“problem bear”) Bruno.
