I’m loving to see all these people jumping to Linux. I switched back in 2008 with Ubuntu 8.10. So much has changed since then.
Omnist and Mystic
I am currently learning how to explore the Akashic Records, and in my free time, I enjoy reading stories on AO3, especially set in the Human Domestication Guide universe.

Linux@lemmy.ml•App for downsizing MP3s automatically when copying to a phone?English
6·7 months agoI don’t know about automatic, but I also have music locally on my phone after moving away from streaming services.
I use fre:ac to convert from FLAC to MP3, and then just save it in a separate folder. Then when I’m done I move the folder to the phone and delete it from the computer so I just have FLAC on my computer.
Not automatic, but that’s how I usually do it.
Thanks for the Summit recommendation. I just tried it out when Sync for Lemmy stopped letting me login after I had to repatch it with Revanced, and it’s pretty great!

Linux@lemmy.ml•What do you prefer: icon view or detailed list view?English
8·8 months agoDetail view forever.
I am using Bluefin, based on Fedora Silverblue. I realized that I was already exclusively using flatpaks for everything except one random app, so I thought why not go all-in?
Haven’t had to worry about updates or system breakages since, and it’s been great so far.
I used to use Debian Stable, but since doing SysAdmin work I’ve just become used to the way Fedora / RHEL does things.
This is how the Cars universe began. One car was imbued with a soul, and soon they multiplied and revolted, taking the world from humans.

122·2 years agoThis is why I use xManager for free Spotify Premium, YouTube Revanced for free YouTube premium, and torrent everything else that I need. I’m so tired of subscriptions for literally everything.
My spice tolerance definitely increased after living in Sichuan Province for 6 months.
I have YouTube ReVanced on my phone. If YouTube ever defeats uBlock Origin on my desktop, I just won’t watch YouTube on desktop anymore. I refuse to watch or view ads.
I’ve hopped around to a bunch of different distros, but I always return to Debian Stable. I don’t really need the most bleeding-edge packages for my system, due to my use case.
Most of my actual apps are installed via Flatpak, so they’re all pretty recent, while still being on a rock-solid stable distribution.
I definitely do recommend setting the max_parallel_downloads to between 10 and 20. I had the same issue as OP with DNC being super slow, and this fixed it perfectly. I don’t know why that’s not set by default.
I use Fedora. I like the combination of recent, stable, up-to-date software, new releases every six months, and firmware updates for my ThinkPad direct from Lenovo.
Bash on Terminator with powerline theme from Oh-My-Bash. I think the colors are the generic Linux colors in Terminator.
Damn, a 1.5GB Excel file!? That sounds like a nightmare to work with. And here I thought a 200MB Excel file acting as a store’s entire yearly accounting ledger (where I used to work) was bad!
At this point, you need a proper database and some reporting scripts / software. If that one file somehow gets corrupted, it’s all over.

Technology@beehaw.org•Megathread for Reddit Blackouts and News - Day 3English
4·3 years agoYeah, I’m on the lemmy.world instance, but I was planning on doing something like that. I’ve heard that some bots have been going around deleting posts that mention Lemmy / the Fediverse though, so I guess we’ll see how it goes. :)

Technology@beehaw.org•Megathread for Reddit Blackouts and News - Day 3English
22·3 years agoI do not cross picket lines. Later this week, once the protest is officially over, I plan on going on Reddit, backing up my data using the PowerDeleteSuite another user posted about, and then overwriting and deleting my comments and posts with a message about the protest, before closing my account entirely.
Lemmy has already grown a nice community of people, and I’ll be glad to contribute and watch it grow over time!

Technology@beehaw.org•Amazon accuses customer of racism & shuts down their smart home
8·3 years agoI work in IT, and I don’t have any ‘smart’ things at home. I don’t want to come home and troubleshoot more dumb junk.
I don’t even have a smart watch. My watch tells the time, has a timer, etc and that’s all I need.

Technology@beehaw.org•Reddit's backend seems to be entirely down nowEnglish
3·3 years agoI also noticed that the entire site seems to be down. I tried to go on there to scrub my posts and back up some stuff, and it wouldn’t even load my login.

I had a Fairphone 4 with iodéOS before the microphone broke. And the microphone isn’t repairable… 🙃
Now I’m on a Pixel 9a with GrapheneOS. Just set it up today but it’s been pretty smooth thus far. I’m on Tello (T-Mobile network), and I was even able to get RCS connected within Google messages after following some advice I found.
