I mean fuck ICE and Reddit, but that’s for CBP. Fuck them too.
I’ve had Brother laser printers for over 15 years with my Linux machines and they’ve worked beautifully.

4·3 months ago💯 agree. The West is very often a hypocritical terrorist organization. But that doesn’t make the Soviet Union or China the good guys.

9·3 months agoI actually came across this post the other day and it really made me feel crazy for a moment because it’s not immediately obvious that it’s propaganda or some dumb asshole. Then I learned what tankie meant and I stopped feeling crazy.
Then what happened?
Fun fact: the subject of that report is “comments on the change of Soviet leadership” and the header says “This is UNEVALUATED information”.
My first kid is almost 3 and we have another on the way. It is so fucking draining and so fucking awesome. My wife and I joke about what the hell we did in our free time before our daughter. We both have careers and hobbies so it’s not like we were bored, but it is so much fucking fun having a kid. We would definitely kill for some more free time, but highly recommend it. Also, if you decide to have kids, it’s not very difficult, it’s just a lot of work.
+1 for Restic on Backblaze. It’s cheap af for my setup because all my data is on a RAID 10 pool with snapshots. Then anything that needs to be safe from theft/fire/unlikely number of simultaneous failures gets sent to Backblaze.

Linux@lemmy.ml•Can someone get through college on GNU Linux?
10·8 months agoIt’s been a while since I was in college, but I dual booted my laptop with Windows and Fedora for the first couple years then moved exclusively to Fedora. I even wrote my master’s thesis using Libre Office.
Unless you come across arcane statistics software or bullshit “education” tools that only exist for Windows that you need, which is possible, you should be good to go. Even then, you might be able to use Wine or find alternatives.
So yeah, go for it! Keep the Windows VM if you want a safety net.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What is an intrusive thought you feel like you are only a couple steps away from indulging?
2·1 year agoSure, but we are a long way from not being dependent on oil even by the most aggressive timelines. Destroying a significant amount of oil infrastructure while we still use it would cripple supply chains, transportation, etc and we wouldn’t be able to move to renewable sources as quickly because there would be significantly fewer resources available.
Like I said, I’m fully supportive of moving away from oil because I know how damaging it is. But I just don’t see a realistic way to get rid of oil that quickly.

5·1 year agoI understand the dangers of climate change and pollution and I fully support moving away from oil as an energy source. But I’m genuinely curious about how you see destroying oil infrastructure playing out.
Makita. Best tools that aren’t stupid expensive.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Android users who don't use the stock launcher - what launcher do you use, and what do you like about it?
6·2 years agoFor me it’s the stupid left home screen that you can’t use.

Nice! I didn’t know that one.
You can also cd to a directory and then do
cd -to go to the last directory you were in.
