Bees and butterflies don’t pollinate all by themselves, FYI. Things that bite/sting also do a lot of pollination work! Flies, wasps, etc

Yes, very true! I almost added that when writing my comment, but didn’t want to blather on too long in a comment about a meme haha
I mean, the ability to run long distances without tiring is kind of what makes humans an apex predator. We can out-endurance just about every other creature. Most ancient human hunting techniques involved just wounding an animal, and then literally chasing it until it got too tired to keep going.
Wolves are very similar, which is what made us such natural hunting companions. The co-evolution of humans and dogs is an extremely interesting rabbit hole, if anyone is looking for one.
All that to say, the wolf would understand the need to run more than just about any other animal. A bear would work better here. A wolf would just see us running and think ‘game recognizes game’, just like they already did eons ago :3
That made me chuckle, thanks for posting it. Kinda reminds me of a joke-phrase in American English that goes “If a frog had wings it wouldn’t bump its ass when it hopped.”
How do you mean? Dinosaurs? They were warmblooded, so no, not just lizards. Usually in the rock around the fossilized bones are imprints of other features of the animal, like skin texture or the presence of feathers.
We can also tell a lot from the points where muscles attach to the bones.
That’s not even accounting for the behavior we can interpret based on fossilized footprints! We’re actually learning that T-Rex were pretty good parents for instance.
It’s a very complex field, and it’s amazing how much we can learn from so few clues.
Right, and that’s why most people would believe this meme and take it as 100% truthful. The meme doesn’t specify that that’s the way we USED to do it, it says that’s how it would be done

science@lemmy.world•Fish Suffer Up to 22 Minutes of Intense Pain When Taken Out of WaterEnglish
8·6 months agoWas this the fish passing after a few minutes, hours, days? If you remember at all. Was there any controlling for gill damage during the catch? I know some idiots who will hold them up by the gills for pictures, I wonder if that causes damage? Or just dying from shock? I wonder if I can find the study
So tired of this meme, especially in a science themed sub. It’s just wrong and thusly promotes disinformation because it takes seconds to read a meme like this and move on without question. Meanwhile it takes (comparitavely) ages to actually research how fossils are reconstructed. If people even think to research it in the first place, because, hey, it’s in a science-based sub, right??
Remember kids, the best memes are those based on truth 😎

I know it’s a meme, but when this is posted without clarification, it spreads to people who think it’s real and they regurgitate it as fact
But that’s not a fact about trains, that’s an opinion on trains >:(

5·8 months agoDidn’t the original GTA/RDR writers leave after finishing RDR2 anyway? Another worry I have is that this game will have none of the story/writing that made the previous games great, and is just a Rock star cash grab because they own the IP.

World News@lemmy.world•Coral bleaching is affecting nearly all the world’s reefs, new NOAA report saysEnglish
11·8 months agoI definitely get it. Ecological fallout keeps me up in cold sweats more nights than not. I’m not sure most people realize how bad it could get, either. All the trees in the world don’t make enough oxygen to replace the oxygen we’d need if the cyanobacteria in the ocean dies out, and it’s getting perilous with the acidification of the ocean.
That said, I do still see raising a child well as an act of hope for the future. As a parent, that’s my most important mission. Could they possibly die/suffer? Yes, but unfortunately that’s a risk that all parents run by having a child (and all people run by being alive), no matter what the cause turns out to be. Climate disaster, leukemia, car wreck, it all nets the same thing— pain and suffering for your child. I guess I just take the stance of the Man and the Boy in the Road: we’re the ones that carry the fire, and we have to keep carrying it to keep hope and other good things alive.
I’m not saying everyone needs to have kids though! It’s rewarding, but this shit is hard as fuck. It’s not for everyone. Hell, it wasn’t for me until I aged about three decades and did serious work on myself. Adoption is also an option, though harder to do than most people think unfortunately :/

63·8 months agoWhile many beautiful things are passing away, that implies that there aren’t still beautiful things here worth fighting for. I see value in bringing new people into the world and helping them love it and it’s life like I do. The world needs more people who care fighting for it, not less.

You’re missing the context of WHEN THEY ARE the targets. Women are more often on the receiving end for both. Just because one gender gets one type of violence more often, still doesn’t mean they receive more instances of it over the other.
Read this whole thing and tries to shift the focus to himself and how it makes him feel. Amazing. Bear please.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Why does it seem like so many (young) men these days flock over to types like Andrew Tate?
4·8 months agoI mean, yeah. Young people of both genders are doing really poorly. Some people want to really naval gaze it and throw pity parties about how men are just so put upon and lonely, but so are the gals and theys.
It’s just that the boys are being offered a solution of basically a heirarchy-cult (read: fascism) where instead of being shat on like the rest of us, they are—in this narrative—meant to be elevated above us.
It’s the same bullshit that got the white poor rednecks voting for billionaire grifters.
