Thank you! I’m still figuring out my goals here… Could I ask for your recommendation, given the following?
Primary goal: Access my music library from any of my devices (Android, MacOS, Linux), wherever I am in the world, hopefully without paying anyone (or at least not paying a LOT).
Secondary goal (Not sure if I want to do this yet): Let a group of about 12 friends access my library

In my case, I worked for someone who only communicated via iMessage. When I got hired they said, “Either get an iPhone or figure out some magical way to get iMessage on Android.”

I didn’t read Solrize’s comment as saying “There shouldn’t be paywalls,” just asking the very legitimate question as to how they will interact with federation.
Interestingly, 404 just solved something kinda related: they developed a way for subscribers to get a custom RSS feed address, so they can access paywalled articles directly in their RSS reader. TMK, they are the first publication to do this. I imagine they would do something similar for federation. (I believe that if any of the custom RSS feeds show huge traffic numbers, 404 shuts it down, but I’m not sure)

Thank you for this! Definitely cool to get a better UI for this.
However, I’ll say that the biggest pain point w/r/t academic papers isn’t Arxiv’s interface. It’s the papers themselves. PDFs are SO clunky, especially for those of us who enjoy reading on an eink screen. IMHO, the biggest unlock will be when someone figures out a way to easily convert academic PDFs to .epub while preserving the flow of the document.
Still, in the meantime, I’m very glad to have this new project. Thanks again for building! Adding it to my bookmarks
