I don’t think the movie overall is bleak at all. the world they live in is pretty bleak but all things considered it has a positive view of most of its characters imo

3·9 months agothis is definitely one of my favorite YouTube sketches of all time
I learned about shift response vs support response from this Anna Akana video: https://youtu.be/y99WZ-3c6zE
Time and place for both, but putting names to them made me a bit more conscious of balancing the two.
PS, if you haven’t seen her LA Metro PSA videos, treat yourself and check them out

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Which default settings on anything do you look to change ASAP?
4·11 months agoFor first person games, map reload on mouse 4 and sprint (or whatever else was on shift, maybe a spell) on mouse 5. Melee is left alt.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Which default settings on anything do you look to change ASAP?
5·11 months agoI think the preference difference might have something to do with being used to scroll wheels or not. I personally grew up using mice with scroll wheels before I got my first touch screen device (iPod touch) so when trackpads started supporting multi-touch scroll I was already used to scrolling my fingers down to move down in the content.
Linguists are probably the least likely people to get upset at someone using the “wrong” word. they might pull out their notebook and start asking you questions though
grammar pedantry is way more annoying than any grammar mistake

Linux@lemmy.ml•Kitty Terminal 0.40.0 introduces the Text Sizing Protocol: "multiple font sizes ... in a backwards compatible, opt-in way"
101·1 year agoI always wondered if something like this could be possible in the future of terminals. glad to see kitty pushing the envelope! Looking forward to see this used for stuff like markdown rendering. Hoping this gets picked up by other terminals and neovim like the undercurl did.
I have this as a sticker on my water bottle

Music@beehaw.org•CEO of AI Music Company Says People Don’t Like Making Music
27·1 year agoI loved programming since I was 14. This was an acceptable passion to spend time on because it would allow me to be successful (read: make money).
My sister always loved visual art, and is now in art school. This is an unacceptable passion, and when she tells people that she’s in art school the first response is almost always “oh so what are you planning to do with that degree?”
We have been conditioned into a very narrow definition of success. It’s not surprising then that we start seeing art as “the next big problem to solve”, and you have all these tech bros frothing at the mouth to be the first to “solve” it and become the next startup billionaire.
Low-effort art and music has always been around. You don’t see anyone bumping those inoffensive cover albums and lounge remixes that you hear at the mall or the driving range in their cars though. Anyone who doesn’t already love listening to music isn’t in that position because of a lack of options in the (sigh) market. So I promise you won’t see “billions of new customers” dying to consume derivative slop music.

AI Generated Images@sh.itjust.works•Leopards enjoying a buffetEnglish
4·1 year agoone thing I hate about AI images is that if you have multiple of the same subject in the image, they often all look exactly the same. the backs and faces of those leopards are eerie in their uniformity
Ken M made a similar joke a while back right?

Home@lemmy.zip•IMPORTANT: Proposal to change Lemmy.zip to 18+ onlyEnglish
2·1 year agoHow hard is it, for anyone who has experience developing for Lemmy, to add a custom UI flow that asks the user to confirm that they are 18 (purely verbally with no ID verification)? It might be worthwhile to implement in general tbh
meh there’s similar popular stuff https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Queen_Mary_(cocktail)
I wonder if there’s already a git extension to automatically stash the working tree on every clean/reset/checkout operation…
