Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•I want to spend a half hour this evening reading an essay that contains ideas I have probably not considered before. What can you recommend?
1·1 year agoThere’s never any real discussion of detailed fixes in this kind of complaint—because that might acknowledge we can fix the problem without overthrowing the system. There’s never any argument about how under socialism (or some other alternative economic model) public policy tradeoffs, political failures, or scarcity just wouldn’t exist.

1·1 year agoThat’s certainly a way you can describe something.
Before I graduated I was encouraged to apply for a job that required a four year degree.
Don’t worry about it - we know you, they said.
When I submitted my application online it was automatically rejected because the application program correctly flagged that I didn’t meet the requirement of having a four year degree.
Because I don’t know how to use whatever this not-reddit… thing is.

2·2 years agoThey can amend it or they can pass law citing a different part of the constitution or other judicial precedent, then if it gets challenged the Supreme Court would have to rule on the constitutionality of it’s latest legal justification.
Hopefully after we replace six justices.

815·2 years agoFor now, they’re planning on getting out voters for the general election, and recruiting volunteers along the way.
Most planning falls to state and local parties - which you can easily get involved in.
Why haven’t you?

He’s right to point out that either no alternative is offered or the alternative is just more regulated capitalism with a stronger safety net.
