Unless you put fierce legal constraints on capitalism, it will consume democracy in the end. Alas, legal constraints won’t help against capitalism because with enough capital you can rewrite the laws to further your capitalist agenda. Which is exactly what we have been seeing and is exactly what has been happening for a long time.

I used to live in one of the “freest” countries in the world. It is quickly turning into a total surveillance and control state led by literal fascists, and people are just sleep-walking straight into it despite having one of the most educated populations in the world.

This is the inevitable consequence of capitalism. It could not possibly end any other way. Capitalism will always lead to the dismantling of democracy on a long enough timescale, it is its logical and causal conclusion.

Society needs some sort of chemo to survive, and the chemo is equally likely to kill it.

I would kind of care that there is blatant division between people’s worth as human beings depending on how much money they possess.

There is a deep equitable drive between human beings, we want fairness and equality as a matter of who we are as a species. Moderate differences in standard of living are tolerable, but social discrepancies over a certain limit unravels the fabric of our human connection.

In a way, capitalism turns us into monsters, predating on one another. There is no lowest common level of comfort that could ever undo that type of break with who we are, because we are more than the arbitrary division the system creates. We are creatures with dignity and a sense of justice.
