Exactly. Torrenting is just so much more powerful that it’s become synonymous with file sharing as a whole.

FWIW Limewire was not a torrent client, at least not for a long time.

The Napster era of P2P file sharing used centralized servers for indexing and querying the content available: it was a much simpler system than torrents, but much less robust.

So your torrent search site and your torrent client were essentially bundled together within a desktop app. Again simpler: you could just tell someone what program to download and they were off to the races. Great for word of mouth when the web was still underdeveloped.

What came up when you searched was essentially whatever was in the shared folders of whoever happened to be online at the time. So it was even more of a wild west with essentially no moderation.

Overall worse than torrents in almost every way, but it was a fun weird time to be online. I personally went from Napster to KaZaA to Limewire before ultimately moving on to torrents.

Vizio is the worst. I bought a TV of theirs back in 2017 because it was just a display with integrated chromecast. Having a remote with 8 buttons that does both tv volume and chromecast play/pause is awesome.

Not too long later, they mailed me a standard garbage fire smart tv remote, and pushed a software update to add all the cancerous smart TV features. I’ve never accepted the terms of service, so it still kinda works like it used to.

The funniest part is when the ToS beg window comes up every time I turn it on, I get to enjoy the incredibly condescending language telling me that I bought a smart tv and that smart tvs have certain data collection requirements. Did I buy a smart tv, vizio?

I just wish WASM could replace JS rather than merely augment it for non-DOM work.

So your grand plan is to keep carbon emitting sources until batteries can completely cover the baseload in all conditions? That’s a non-solution.

Batteries, limited as they are, can certainly mitigate ramping issues with nuclear, though.

Talk to me when it’s all battery and no gas. That’s what nuclear would be replacing, not the renewables. Nuclear and solar/wind complement each other.

Pretending that the baseload problem is solved for solar and wind doesn’t help anybody. “batteries work”, but not at the scale of the demands of a power utility when wind and solar happen not to be producing.

Because it forces me to have a snap directory in my home dir which I otherwise keep very tidy. At least let me put it in .snap or something like any decent piece of software. The snap developers don’t respect users at all.

I didn’t realize they stopped; what happened? I don’t remember hearing a hodler outcry.
